first weekend in our home!!!



We got a TON done this weekend. Brian was a crazy man and ripped out all of the carpets and padding. Together we painted all of the ceilings and changed out light fixtures and fans! My parents came over and were a ton of help with the changing of light fixtures and fans and using spakling all over.  Its started to set in just how good its going to look when its done! Were onto the more fun part of the project, picking out paint colors!!! We bought a couple colors of paint samples last night and today brian is going to paint a couple of sample areas. We got the house measured on saturday so that we know square footage to order carpet and wood laminate!!!!

We closed on the house today, so its offically ours!!!! We headed right over and met some neighbors. Then the work began. Brian got right to work ripping up carpet, he did the whole bottom floor and half of the steps. I started working on the ceilings until I realized we needed some cleaning supplies, so back to the store I went. Were home for now, but looking forward to getting back in the house tomorrow!!!

Final walk-through!

Today was our final walk through at our to-be home. It was nice to be in the house but it did show just how much needs to be done! I am soo excited for the size of our master bedroom and the full basement and the back porch. But the amount of work we are taking on is a little daunting! We close on the house and take possession in two days, Friday Oct 22. We intend to rip out ALL of the carpeting & paint the ceilings this weekend. Walking through the house today I realized there are LOTS of spackling needs through out the house also.

For the next couple days we are trying to pick our paint colors. Kind of overwhelming, a least for the neutral color that is going in a lot of the rooms. The other colors are easier! I have samples from many stores to compare! Sooo many decisions :)

Why blog?...

So Brian approached me with the idea of blogging the next couple months of our life as we do a lot of DIY home improvement projects on the home we just bought. We take possession of the house on the closing date, October 22. We are pretty excited about this and have been picking out paint colors, wood colors, and a lot more. Yesterday we took a trip to IKEA and found a lot of great things to help make this house into our home.

A little bit about our house, its 1400 square feet, one car garage with a wrap around porch. It has a large wooden porch in the back.  The house has three bedrooms and 1.5 baths. There is  bonus room upstairs that is set up to be a master bath. Turning it into a master bath down the line is the plan, but not an immediate project. There is a living room, dinning room and kitchen on the main level, along with the half bath and laundry room. The basement is a full basement with lot of potential!
